How do I know what my landlord can and can’t do?
As a renter you have rights. It’s important to know your rights and to know who to contact if you have a problem with your landlord. Get answers to common questions about dealing with your landlord .

The Fair Housing Act says you must be offered housing fairly and without discrimination regardless of the following, which are known as protected classes:

  • race
  • color
  • country where you were born
  • religion
  • sex
  • familial status
  • disability

Also, several local jurisdictions have ordinances that prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation, and in some cases gender identity. Learn more about national housing protection laws
